Hayley Paige – JLM Couture Bridal Designer

Hayley Paige is a force to be reckoned with in the wedding industry, as she colors the bridal world with her designs. It’s as if she stitches a piece of her effervescent personality into each of her wedding dresses. Not only are her gowns glamorous, but she has “owned” the term whimsical. So, what does she have to say?

Q: What is the inspiration behind Fall 2019 Collection?

A: This season is about confidence, not compromise. I’ve been exploring empowerment principals and how energy is truly a universal language. I wanted each gown in this collection to represent a different value in the same way a superhero manifests a special skill; everything from loyalty and resilience to grit and gratitude is in attendance. Each season, I try to create something playful beyond the scope of garments to help manifest the vibe of this season. One year, I did a short story about the celestial spirit, and last year I launched our wedding emoji app available on the AppStore called Happy Matrimoji. This season I created a deck of tarot cards, each representing one gown from the new Hayley Paige collection and embodying a unique fortune.

Q: You’re stranded on a desert island and can only bring five things from your closet. What would you grab?

A: My most sparkly dress (so it can be seen from the skies, haha!), my Pink Floyd pajamas (which is actually a onesie), workout clothes, a snuggie and a pair of running shoes.

Q: What techniques, patterns, textures will be unexpected from this year’s collection for brides?

A: I am most excited about our new “Luxemburg” fabric, which is inspired by the Luxemburg gardens and illustrated from an elysian-wanderlust type mindset. She was what I like to call “baked from scratch.” The hand-drawn artwork was transferred to a cad program and embroidered onto a super delicate lace webbing. The effect in its entirety gives the appearance of lace on lace with a splash of shine. Basically, we doubled down on dimension and then upped the ante on the luminosity. I love having a textural fabric that is exclusive to our brand and gives our bride that “something authentic.”

Q: If you could have any TV or movie character’s wardrobe, whose would your chose?

A: Cher from “Clueless.”

Q: What five adjectives describe your brand and the reason why you design?

A: Happy. Heartfelt. Imaginative. Lyrical. Spicy.

Q: Are there any new trends that you anticipate for the 2019 bride?

A: I think the most wonderful thing about the industry right now is the demand in diversity and that super personal expression. There are so many different looks and trends to embrace because there are so many different types of women! I love having such a wide assortment in versatility, whether in sheer sheaths, sleeves or bodacious ball gowns. There is something authentic for everyone.

Q: If you had to pick one comfort food and design an entire collection around it, what would it be and why?

A: Popcorn! You can go sweet or savory and there is such a dimensional quality to explore.

Q: Name one style rule you think all brides should break.

A: Wearing white on your wedding day!

Q: Tell us little about your all-time favorite find shopping for yourself.

A: My favorite find was actually a pair of fun and furry snow boots that look identical to the ones Jim Carrey wore in “Dumb and Dumber.”

Lazaro – JLM Couture Bridal Designer

What we have come to learn about Lazaro is that any synonym you associate with a diamond – think dazzle, shine, sparkle, shimmer and more – you can apply to his designs. We’re talking a girl’s best friend. He is as they say, “the salt of the earth” and crazy talented to boot. He, himself, is a true gem in the industry and his glam designs reflect just that while offering brides a multi-dimensional style. Refraction is what he does best.

Q: What was the inspiration behind your collection?

A: My inspiration for this season was a Lazaro bride.  The bride who loves beautiful silk fabrics and she loves her beading and hand embroidery. I took very iconic Lazaro pieces from the past and gave them a fresh and modern twist.

Q: What techniques, patterns, textures will be unexpected from this year’s collection for brides?

A: I am known as the ball gown king and this season I’ve tamed it down with smaller silhouettes. You’ll see sheath gowns, two-piece silk charmeuse slips under beautiful lace embroidery and beading, and small A-line gowns.

Q: What five adjectives describe your brand and the why you design?

A: Timeless, sophistication, love, romanticism and self-expression

Q: Are there any new trends that you anticipate for the 2019 bride?

A: Off the shoulder! It’s not necessarily new but I’ve seen it on all of the recent high fashion runways and I think more brides will be looking for that in their gown.

Q: If you could have any TV or movie character’s wardrobe, whose would you chose and why?

A: All of the suits from Mad Men! I don’t think there is one that I don’t like!!

Q: If you had to pick one comfort food and design an entire collection around it, what would it be and why?

A: Cake! There are endless amounts of flavors and decorations that can be used.

Q: You’re stranded on a desert island and can only bring five things from your closet — what do you grab?

A: A baseball cap, I am always wearing one. The Light up sneakers I wore when I debuted my Fall 2016 collection. This belt that has Lazaro encrusted on the buckle and swim trunks.

Q: Name one style rule you think all brides should break.

A: Try on the opposite of what you think you like. You may be surprised!!

Allison Webb – JLM Couture Bridal Designer

This is Allison Webb’s second collection for the JLM Couture brand. We were wow’d by her debut last October – and this collection renders us speechless. It’s no surprise that we are big fans of all things that embrace elegance, timelessness and a side of chic. Any designer that brings pearls to the forefront is our kind of modern day Audrey Hepburn. Keeping her eye on modern edge, she never loses sight of the classy bride.

Q: What was the inspiration behind your collection?

A: I was inspired by my favorite painter, Jasper Johns. His painting titled “White Flag” is abstract, monochromatic and the brushstrokes create layers and layers of depth. I used that concept as a jumping off point to create a collection focused on clean lines juxtaposed against subtle layers of texture.

Q: If you had to pick one comfort food and design an entire collection around it, what would it be and why?

A: One of my all-time favorite foods is guacamole. But, I think it would be a bit hard to design a collection around avocados! I would probably choose petit-fours, tiny little cakes that originate from France and design a collection around what it would be like to get married in Paris.

Q: What techniques, patterns, textures will be unexpected from this year’s collection for brides?

A: I focused a lot on silhouette this season; the gowns are constructed and sculptural, but imbued with a sense of softness that comes from the fabrics themselves. Italian jacquards, French micro-sequins and silk faille are some of the core fabrics I’m using to give brides new and novel gowns that they haven’t seen before.

Q: What five adjectives describe your brand and the why you design?

A: Modern, fresh, timeless, sophisticated, elegant. I design because it is my joy and my passion! I feel incredibly lucky and grateful to be a designer and am honored that I’m able to be a part of one of the most important days in a woman’s life.

Q: If you could have any TV or movie character’s wardrobe, whose would you chose and why?

A: Such a fun question! I love the way Claire in the House of Cards dresses. Her wardrobe is the epitome of luxury chic. She wears incredible dresses, trench coats and has a timeless, sophisticated style.

Q: Are there any new trends that you anticipate for the 2019 bride?

A: I think Meghan Markle’s dress choice further pushed a continuing trend of clean, non-embellished dresses. I anticipate less embellishment, simpler gown shapes and a return to simplicity.

Q: You’re stranded on a desert island and can only bring five things from your closet — what do you grab?

A: I would make sure to grab my Hunter rain boots, a lightweight jacket, favorite collared shirt, a bathing suit and sunglasses!

Q: Name one style rule you think all brides should break.

A: Ultimately, I think a bride should choose a dress based on what makes her feel most beautiful. Even if the gown doesn’t perfectly match the vibe of the venue (for example, a ball gown for a beach wedding). She should go for it and choose the dress she loves the most!

Q: Tell us a little about your all-time favorite find shopping for yourself?

A: Years ago, I stumbled upon a pair of gorgeous Gucci equestrian style boots. They were on sale, but it was still a big purchase and I splurged. I’m so glad I bought them; I re-sole them every year and wear them countless times throughout the winter! They’re one of the best purchases I have ever made and I still get excited to put them on!
