This past winter was one of the snowiest seasons on record for Boston. Through March, the city had accumulated 108.6 inches of snow. But on March 21, hearts warmed as Katie and Jamie said their vows in classic elegance at the Fairmont Copley Plaza. Dressed in a Romona Keveza mermaid gown, Katie bundled up in her fur stole for some breathtaking moments along side her groom, all captured by Nicole Chan Photography.
The newlyweds met at Boston College Kate’s freshman year. Jamie spotted her during the Florida State football game and he was determined to not only meet her, but also spend time with her. The details vary depending on which spouse you ask, but it is safe to say that Katie was a bit more smitten than she initially let on. Their first date was to a Celtics game where Jamie was so nervous – he forgot the tickets. From that date, they knew they were meant to be.
It wasn’t until eight years later that Jamie proposed under the pretense of a family Christmas photo session on the night before Thanksgiving. In the middle of Louisburg Square in Beacon Hill, Katie’s favorite neighborhood, Jamie got down on one knee and she said yes. The newly engaged couple went to straight to the nursing home where her “Papa” was being cared for to share the exciting news with her grandparents, spending the day with family and beloved friends.
Boston is where Katie and Jamie’s love story grew. From the time they met in college to the two years in the city after graduation, they were inspired by the charm of “old Boston.” They wanted a day that reflected both of their personalities, with Jamie’s passion for history and Katie’s adoration for classic elegance, their dream day evolved. The wedding held a neutral, white and ivory color palette trimmed with gold and gilded accents with a hint of blush.
The gold linens and chairs cast a warm glow from the Fairmont Copley Plaza’s chandeliers that spread throughout the ballroom. The floral designs were delicate, ranging from low to high all graced with a spattering of blush and pink roses to highlight the arrangements. One of the special touches was a table that featured intimate wedding photos of their parents and grandparents paying respect to the great loves that have lasted for generations.
The night before their wedding, Jamie wrote Katie a love letter leading with a quote that he had saved for the 10 years they spent dating and engaged. He saved it because he knew when he first read it that it was what he wanted her to read before saying “I do.” Signifying the depth and love he held for her and to illustrate that theirs was one from first sight. It said:
“When I saw you, I fell in love. And you smiled, because you knew.”
The day was dotted with beautiful sentiments. Katie’s maid of honor and friend of more than 20 years stood by her side reminiscing about funny childhood stories. She also shared a letter with Katie writing “Today marks the beginning of a new chapter, one you will write with James. But before there was Jamie, there was ‘Katie + Christie.’” Katie had chosen a mix and match style for her bridesmaids who wore Amsale Bridesmaids gowns. Each dress not only had a different neckline, but were an array of colors ranging from soft pink to platinum.
After the fabulous wedding that exuded romance, family and friendship, Katie and Jamie set off to the Grand Cayman Islands and Argentina with site seeing and relaxation in Buenos Aires and the Iguaza Falls. Our own heart-felt thank you to this couple and their photographer, Nicole Chan for sharing your story with us at Strictly Weddings.
