Destination Weddings: Vancouver
We love beautiful destination weddings and this charming one is in the lovely and vibrant city of Vancouver, Canada. While at a bar in downtown Vancouver, Amanda and Michael were each providing ‘moral support’ for their individual friends who had approached one another. Ironically, by the end of the night, it was Amanda and Michael who had made a love connection. The couple were engaged four years later, after traveling around Europe for three weeks. They had visited London, the south of France, and were ending their trip in Paris. “Late one evening, we were picnicking in front of the Eiffel Tower,” recalls Amanda. “When it gets dark, the Eiffel Tower’s lights turn on and sparkle every hour for a few minutes. At midnight on August 18, 2011, when the lights started sparkling, Mike set up his camera and told me to stand up for a picture. I stood up, and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! The camera was actually set up to record the entire proposal.”
Exactly one year later, they were married in Vancouver. Naturally, they incorporated subtle, yet beautiful Parisian-themed design and decor accents into their wedding to remind them of the French city of love where the proposal took place. To set the tone, Amanda’s uncle, a graphic designer in San Francisco, designed a simple, yet elegant stationery suite which featured a custom monogram and an Eiffel Tower illustration. The set was then letterpress-printed at BLACK STONE PRESS. The invites really provided the inspiration and vision for the rest of the wedding.
The bride wore a Paloma Blanca gown and custom veil from SPOSA WEDDING WORLD. Her earrings, by Christina Garcia, were purchased at JEWELIETTE, but her pearl necklace was a gift from her mother. The morning of the wedding, she opened up a gift from the groom—a beautiful Elsa Corsi double-strand pearl bracelet with a marquise crystal clasp. Her blush-pink satin Vera Wang pumps, from NEIMAN MARCUS, featured a bow detail. The bridesmaids wore blush-pink, silk chiffon dresses by Donna Morgan. They had a strapless sweetheart neckline with rose detailing along the top. They also wore matching Michael Kors nude peep-toe pumps.
The ceremony and reception both took place at Vancouver’s TERMINAL CITY CLUB. Event planner Lisa Kwong provided day-of event coordination. The elegant decor was planned and organized entirely by the bride herself, with florals by Donna Chan of CHAMPLAIN FLORIST.
In the ceremony area, gold Chiavari chairs provided beautiful seating. The chairs along the aisle were adorned with bunches of baby’s breath and blush pink organza ribbon. Two large white hydrangea and rose floral arrangements marked the ‘altar’ at the front of the room. After the ceremony, guests were invited into the ballroom for a short cocktail reception—a chance to mingle and visit with each other before being seated for dinner. The servers passed Rosé for guests upon arrival.
The reception was held in the beautiful grand ballroom at the TERMINAL CITY CLUB. The room features a gold and champagne colour scheme, architecturally detailed walls, floor-to-ceiling windows and crystal chandeliers. A seating chart was posted on a map of Paris and rather than a guestbook, guests signed their sentiments on a large, framed vintage picture of the Eiffel Tower. “We actually love how it turned out and it’s now hanging in our bedroom! ” says the bride. The gorgeous cake was created by Jill Shumka of THE UNCOMMON CAKE.
The travel-loving couple honeymooned in Croatia, where they visited the island of Hvar and stayed at AMFORA HVAR BEACH RESORT. They also spent a few days in the centuries-old town of Dubrovnik.
